Today's Lesson (12/8): Weather reports will give you the UV index for the day. The typical/moderate UV level is between 3-5 and the highest is 11, which is considered extreme. It is extreme here!

Despite sun exposure concerns, today was pretty epic! We took an early flight to Florianopolis, where we seamlessly picked up a rental car to drive an hour or so to Costao do Santinho, an all inclusive resort we'll be staying the next three nights! En route, we found a laundromat! It was truly very exciting (especially the butter knife homeless person fight we witnessed through the window...no pictures because I didn't want to be that person).

Even more exciting was when we checked into the resort, we were given a major upgrade from a basic economy room to a junior suite with a balcony and ocean views in the posh part of the resort! I guess no one told them we're hiker trash :). We spent the afternoon lounging, swimming, saunaing, drinking, and eating...gotta love all inclusive!

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
Today's Lesson (12/7): The three largest urban forests are in Brazil and we visited #1 and #2 today.

Way too many pictures for the 10 photo Instagram limit today! We spent the morning between the hotel fitness center and Copacabana Beach, where we tried to limit our sun exposure to about an hour with sunscreen. However, the sun is different here... we still got lobstered! Regardless, we were excited about our afternoon/evening jeep tour to 18 beaches and Telegrafo Rock in the Parque Estadual da Pedra Branca, the largest urban forest in the world. Our guide, Alvaro, was very enthusiastic for his work and photography, so the tour ended up being more like a personal photo shoot! We have so many pictures of us now...he even sent them right after the tour was over late last night.

The big feature of the day was the now famous Telegrafo Rock, where people like to pose from a rock that looks dangerous but really isn't, lol. It was silly fun. We also got to see Brazilian Raccoons, beautiful views of beaches, and crazy big lightning bugs! Seriously, they're super BIG here.
