Today's Lesson (12/12): The Paraguayan currency (Guarani) is one of the least valued in the world, so inflation has made us millionaires here. As in, $1,000,000 PYG is about $150 USD.
This morning, we awoke early in Curitiba, Brazil with only a short time to see the city before an afternoon flight, so we went for a run through old town to enjoy some final Brazilian ambiance. We took an Uber to the airport and had zero issues checking in or boarding. We did have a slight delay and some wicked bad turbulence, but the views from the plane were pretty great! I think at one point I could actually see Iguazu Falls, but I'm not sure.
I had been really anxious about getting our Visa On Arrival because I'd read stories of how picky the immigration officers were about paying with immaculate looking USD, but we had zero issues! I had gotten a slight bend in our money en route and had even considered ironing the money, lol, but that was so unnecessary! Once through, we bought some SIM cards for internet access. Paraguay is the only South American country we'll visit not covered by our Skyroam internet provider. Once connected, we easily ordered an Uber to our hotel, got settled, and went out for traditional Paraguayan fare at a restaurant opened in 1900! The waiter was very helpful in making sugarencias (suggestions) and we enjoyed our big ballin' $150,000 PYG meal very much!
