Thursday, November 14:

  • Day: 150
  • Miles Hiked Today: 10.3
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2552
  • Miles Remaining: 101.1
  • Update: It was so nice to wake up in a bed this morning and have all our devices charged for our FINAL section.  We’re really trying to make sure we enjoy this last week, knowing that so many people rarely even get a week off work to hike! We had to make up our miles from the early HWY 79 entrance into Warner Springs but then reconvened with our tramily at the community center before heading back out into the desert.  The major highlight of the day was visiting the famous Eagle Rock, a naturally occurring…well… eagle rock. We’re camped at a spring/campsite near a busy highway…but glad for the water. This will be a very dry stretch!

Friday, November 15:

  • Day: 151
  • Miles Hiked Today: 24
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2576
  • Miles Remaining: 77.1
  • Update:  Today was our longest day in a while because we wanted to push on for water… though that turned out to be mostly unwarranted because the cache we were aiming at was basically empty.  Fortunately, we got enough water at our last source to hike the 40 miles until the next reliable source. Otherwise, the day was mild ups and downs, though hot and unshaded. The best thing of the day was Gretzky making memes that align with the meme trend for the week…lol… you’re welcome! We’re currently camped under a bridge… like homeless people…

Saturday, November 16:

  • Day: 152
  • Miles Hiked Today: 24.5
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2600.5
  • Miles Remaining: 52.6
  • Update: 2600 miles with about 50 to go! What?? Today was our last day over 20 miles really…we were motivated to get to water after a basically 40 mile water carry.  We even started hiking by 5am to beat the heat, but the universe laughed at us and broke Reuben’s hip belt about an hour into our hike, boo! I suppose it’s a good thing it happened so close to the end with enough notice for him to replace it before we go to South America though! The hiking today was repetitive but stunning ridge walking,  ending at a picnic area with tables, a pit toilet, and WATER!!!

Sunday, November 17:

  • Day: 153
  • Miles Hiked Today: 20.6
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2621.1
  • Miles Remaining: 32
  • Update: As we get closer to the end,  I’ve gotten giddier and giddier… excited to finish but also to draw out the last of this amazingly fun adventure we’re about to complete. These last two days also include opportunities to stop for grub! Today we ate (expensive) burgers in Mt. Laguna, a fun way to break up the day of mostly the same views, lol. Even with a short day, we still managed to get in after dark but our campsite was very large with multiple flat spots! We fell asleep to the whirr of border patrol helicopters… so you know we’re close!

Monday, November 18:

  • Day: 154
  • Miles Hiked Today: 20.6
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2641.7
  • Miles Remaining: 11.4
  • Update: Our last full day was pretty perfect.  We had cloud cover, plenty of water, mostly gentle terrain,  and a snack stop, where we also bought some whiskey to share with our tramily on our final night on the Pacific Crest Trail.  We socialized around Gretzky’s stove as a campfire, burning off the last of his until now treasured and metered fuel, reminiscing on our experiences.  We all agreed that it was awesome to have found each other and how thankful we were for how much fun we’d had together. My mom is meeting us at the border tomorrow with champagne!

Tuesday, November 19:

  • Day: 155
  • Miles Hiked Today: 11.4
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2653.1
  • Miles Remaining: 0
  • Update: The only important thing to note today is that we reached Mexico! Woohoo!!!! We’ll miss our tramily so much and are grateful to my mother for meeting us at the border with champagne to celebrate the end of such an amazingly fun journey.
