PCT Thruhike: Section 26

In this section,  we continue our hike of the “desert” section from Idyllwild to our FINAL resupply stop in Warner Springs! As our tramily continues to take the last couple of weeks easy,  we have a bit of fun with Trailympics!

Our videos feature quick and dirty views of each trail section as well as A+ and F moments and conclude with Lessons Learned. We hope you enjoy!

Mini-Blog:

Sunday, November 10:

  • Day: 146
  • Miles Hiked Today: 11
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2482.2
  • Miles Remaining: 170.9
  • Update: We had our room in Idyllwild until noon,  so we took advantage and ate both breakfast and dinner in town,  using the in between time to pack up and watch Rocketman (super good BTW). We had hike 2.5 bonus miles uphill out of town, but the rest of the day was pretty easy ridge hiking with stunning jagged views. We met back up with Trees as well as Sauce n Effects, the latter of which we’re camped tonight.  Fun! The only downside of the day is a major return of Poodle Dog Bush.

Monday, November 11:

  • Day: 147
  • Miles Hiked Today: 18.9
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2501.2
  • Miles Remaining: 151.9
  • Update: 2500 miles and 150 remaining! Today’s ridge hiking was glorious… some of the prettiest views we’ve had. Our short day was welcomed,  especially because we all got into camp well before dark. We are camped at a busy trailhead (lots of weekenders/holiday hikers out) with a water cache (yay!). The best part is that there’s a cafe a mile down the road where we can eat breakfast in the morning :).

Tuesday, November 12:

  • Day: 148
  • Miles Hiked Today: 20.9
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2520.1
  • Miles Remaining: 133
  • Update: We had a great time sleeping in while waiting for the Paradise Valley Cafe to open down the road from our campsite.  The food was delicious and the service stellar… except for Snots because they had no vegan options. The rest of the day was more of the same lovely desert hiking we’ve grown accustomed to with few water options. There was a water tank about 13 miles from camp, however,  where we finally saw Shogun again! Exciting stuff :). We did have to night hike for about an hour due to our long breakfast and substantial breaks from the desert heat today, but it was easy night hiking with a beautiful full moon to light the way.

Wednesday, November 13:

  • Day: 149
  • Miles Hiked Today: 23.1
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2541.7
  • Miles Remaining: 111.4
  • Update: We were hiking by 6am (quite a feat for us) but we had a couple of options we’d been mulling over.  We could stop just short of Warner Springs, or hike all the way into the Community Center though they’d be closed when we arrived,  or even head into town early on another HWY and hit up the post office before they closed and get TWO care packages with delicious treats.  Reuben decided on the last option, though we only knew we had to get there by 4pm but with no plan on where to camp. Our tramily decided to stay back.  We lucked out big time though and discovered they do have a lodging situation here so we got a room, did laundry, and got showers. Yay! Thanks to my mom and Reuben’s family for our care packages!!!
