Monday, October 28:

  • Day: 133
  • Miles Hiked Today: 13.6
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2296.7
  • Miles Remaining: 356.4
  • Update: Big fun day today! First,  we had breakfast with Snots’ parents because her dad (Papa Snots) is joining us for this section. Before we left town,  we dropped into Mountain Hardware to pick up our box…BUT THEY LOST IT! This could have been a huge tragedy, but they offered to supply our food for the next section free of charge. It was still a bummer because our box wasn’t really replaceable with Mountain House meals and Clif bars… but at least not a total loss… and we got to trade in our Darn Toughs. We also planned out shopping for a Trailoween party we’re going to have on Thursday.  But wait, there’s more: we FINALLY caught Spreadsheet and Cross Stitch, who we met in Washington and have always been just behind.  We hope they make it to our Trailoween party :). Oh… and we hiked some pretty miles too…

Tuesday, October 29:

  • Day: 134
  • Miles Hiked Today: 26.6
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2323.5
  • Miles Remaining: 329.6
  • Update:  Today was really easy terrain with a McDonald’s in the middle! So… fun day! We began with a lovely sunrise and 9 miles of gentle downhill… then another few miles and fast food break.  We were there with our crew, Sprinkles, Field Trip, and Slippy. There were MANY calories consumed. Our terrible news of the day is continued issues with our Big Agnes tent zippers. Our fly has always been problematic and Reuben called about getting it fixed or replaced and the company was less than helpful.  But now ALL of our zippers are busted so the tent is no longer rain or bug proof :(. I’m going to call again and see what we can do about it. A tent should last longer than a few months and we were planning to use this in Patagonia next month and the CDT next year…

Wednesday, October 30:

  • Day: 135
  • Miles Hiked Today: 21.7
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2345.2
  • Miles Remaining: 307.9
  • Update: We’re nearing the 300 miles left mark! We’re just still having so much fun,  despite the cold snap this week, that we’re a little sad for it to end. It was another easy day of hiking today,  but no fast food, pit toilets, or trash cans, sadly. Regardless, we had a great day and are camped tonight at Deep Creek hot springs.  However, even if they’re weren’t warnings about meningitis, it’s too cold to get in then out of water tonight. So, we just cooked, joked around,  and discussed our excitement about tomorrow’s Trailoween Party!

Thursday, October 31:

  • Day: 136
  • Miles Hiked Today: 22.3
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2367.5
  • Miles Remaining: 285.6
  • Update: Today was our long awaited Trailoween! We actually ended up spreading all our treats over the course of the day starting at our second break with the incredible apple pie Snots carried for three whole days, as well as some “spicy” apple cider.  For our next break we munched on munchies and bean dip. Then we finished our party with costumes (most of us anyway…), cookies, and more cider! Also, we hiked, lol. Today was unique in that we saw a lot of water today between the Deep and Holcomb creeks.  Our celebrations also delayed our arrival in camp, so we had to night hike giving Gretzky a great opportunity to hide and scare each of us as we arrived. The only bad part of the day was the cold as the sun went down. Our party was very frosty!

Friday, November 1:

  • Day: 137
  • Miles Hiked Today: 7
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2374.5
  • Miles Remaining: 278.6
  • Update: Brrrr! We woke up to 8 degree temperatures! It was our coldest night so far, even in the Sierras! As a result,  we didn’t leave camp until like 8:30. Fortunately, today was a short day into Big Bear where we met up with my dad and stepmother for a weekend visit! After showers and laundry,  we all went out to eat and had a great time. We also got the BEST care package from our Washington trail family, Agate and Helium, who are also planning to join us for a section of the CDT next year! We’re so thankful to be in a warm place tonight…our room even has a fireplace! Fancy pants!

Saturday, November 2:

  • Day: 138
  • Miles Hiked Today: 3.5
  • Miles Hiked So Far: 2378
  • Miles Remaining: 275.1
  • Update: Today was a super chill nero day with a gentle hike planned with my dad on the ridge overlooking Big Bear Lake. We slept in, ate a big breakfast,  and headed out. After the hike, my stepmother met us with SOOOO many treats and snacks to enjoy en route to Palm Springs where we are staying for the next two nights. Our hotel is super posh; we were met with a wine and cheese reception…lol… which felt strange to enjoy in my sweat/dirt stained shirt.  Tomorrow, Reuben and dad are going to golf, while Eve and I will shop and get massages :). With only 2 weeks left on trail, it’s nice to experience a transition into comfortable life!
