Started the day with a run around the two lakes behind our hotel and a big warm hotel breakfast (actual hot food and not just open faced sandwiches).
The day was cold and rainy, but we headed to Suomenlinna via ferry anyway and are glad we did. The fortress has an interesting history that really provides insight into the Finnish people. On the island, we visited the museum, took a walking tour, and ate some delicious soup in this cute little cafe.
After our ferry back, we were determined to a) get the most value out of our Helsinki cards as possible and b) stay out of the cold rain…so we went museum hopping across the city! Museums included: Design Museum, Synebrychoff Gallery, Helsinki Art Museum, Temppelakio Church, and the National Museum of Finland. Our favorite was the Design Museum, with special exhibits on specialties from Finnish designers, such as Angry Birds, Fiskars scissors, and the egg chair.
After museuming, we took the Pub Tram, an hour long ride around the city on an antique tram converted into a pub.
Having spent half our dinner money on the unexpected pub tram discovery (priorities), we hit the grocery store for dinner, which is always a fun time! Eating our loot now while watching recaps on the Comey hearings (alas).
Tomorrow, we head to Tallinn!
